I secured 90.5 percentile in UGC NET English. But this achievement did not come easily—it came through doubt, fear, discipline, and continuous effort.
When I first joined the academy, I had the opportunity to listen to a success talk by a JRF achiever.
I still remember sitting there, listening carefully, and a small thought quietly entered my mind—“Will I ever be able to stand like this and share my success story?”
At that time, it felt like a distant dream. Today, I stand here sharing my journey, and that dream has truly come alive.
I was never a top student in academics.
I always saw myself as an average learner, someone who didn’t have big achievements to show. But deep inside, I always had a strong desire to do something meaningful in my life.
Mathematics was one of my biggest fears, and that is one of the reasons I chose English Literature. I thought I could avoid numbers and calculations.
But when I started preparing for UGC NET, I realized that I had to face Paper I, which included mathematical reasoning and data interpretation. That fear returned stronger than ever.
When I first attempted the exam, I hardly knew anything about its depth and standard. I was able to answer only around 50 questions.
That moment became a turning point in my life. It made me realize how much I lacked in subject understanding and how serious I needed to become.
Without wasting time, I decided to join the academy, and that decision slowly started transforming my life.
One of the biggest changes came through the 5 AM classes. Initially, waking up that early felt difficult, but gradually it changed my entire lifestyle.
I started going to bed earlier, having my meals on time, and organizing my daily routine better. More than studies, it brought discipline into my life.
I began to feel focused, calm, and prepared to learn. That one habit made me realize that success is not just about studying hard—it is about living in a disciplined way.
During my preparation, I was also pursuing my B.Ed degree, which made things even more challenging. There were days when I felt anxious and confused.
I often felt like I was forgetting everything I studied, and that fear kept growing. In those moments, I turned to my faculty. I spoke openly about my struggles, and they patiently listened and guided me.
Their words were not just motivational—they gave me emotional strength and confidence. Sometimes, a few kind and reassuring words can create a powerful impact, and I personally experienced that.
One statement from our director stayed deeply with me. He said, “Before going to the exam, ask yourself whether you are satisfied with your preparation.”
That question changed my mindset completely. Instead of panicking, I started reflecting on my preparation. I identified my weak areas, worked on improving them,
and most importantly, I learned to ignore negative thoughts. I chose to trust my efforts and believe in my preparation.
The biggest challenge for me was Paper I. Since I was already weak in mathematics, I used to fear it a lot. But with proper guidance and consistent practice, that fear slowly disappeared.
Concepts that once seemed difficult became understandable. I realized that boldness and willingness to try are more important than fear. Eventually, Paper I became one of the reasons behind my success.
Throughout my journey, I understood that clearing UGC NET is not about studying everything, but about studying with clarity and strategy.
Revision played a very important role in my preparation. Instead of constantly learning new topics, I focused more on revising what I had already studied.
I made handwritten notes, especially for topics I kept forgetting, and revised them repeatedly.
For English Literature, remembering years and events was difficult, so I wrote them in bold and placed them in visible areas around me. Seeing them daily helped me remember them easily.
Another important factor in my success was the online learning environment.
Initially, I had doubts about online classes, but they turned out to be extremely effective.
The sessions were interactive, and I never felt disconnected. Recorded classes helped me revisit concepts whenever I needed clarity.
More importantly, I got to see many other aspirants—working professionals, homemakers—who were putting in immense effort despite their responsibilities. Watching them motivated me deeply.
I felt that if they could push themselves so much, I should do even more.
Of course, this journey required sacrifices. I reduced social outings, avoided distractions like social media, and stayed focused on my goal.
There were times when I had classes even in the evenings, and I had to prioritize my preparation over everything else.
These small sacrifices slowly shaped my success.
Behind all of this, my family played a strong role.
Their support gave me emotional stability and strength. I believe that success is never achieved alone—it is always supported by people who believe in you.
There were moments when I doubted myself and felt like giving up. But I kept going. I held on to discipline, trusted my preparation, and stayed consistent.
Finally, my hard work paid off, and I achieved 90.5 percentile in UGC NET English.
Today, when I look back, I feel proud not just of the result, but of the journey that transformed me.
From someone who doubted herself to someone who achieved her goal, this journey has taught me that consistency, discipline, and belief can truly change everything.
