College TRB Exam Pattern
The exam pattern of college TRB Split into
College TRB Exam – Paper I MCQ
College TRB Exam – Paper II (Descriptive)
College TRB Exam – Paper I
Part A (Compulsory — Tamil Language Eligibility Test)
30 questions total: first 20 questions = 2 marks each; last 10 questions = 1 mark each.
Total = 50 marks. Passing mark for Part A: 20 marks. Passing Part A is necessary for Part B grading to count.
Part B (Subject-based objective questions)
100 questions. Questions are at NET/SET level.
Each question = 1.5 marks. No negative marking.
Duration for Paper I (Part A + Part B) = 3 hours (morning session).
College TRB Exam- Paper II (Descriptive)
You will be given 7 topic areas; you must choose one question and write an essay (instructions specify ~300 words allowed).

- History and Economy of Tamil Nadu
- Environment and Ecology
- Science and Technology
- Current Affairs
This descriptive essay is evaluated for clarity, structure and depth.
Suggested practice length during series: study the 300-word model, then learn from the longer 500–600 word model answers we provide to build better argumentation and vocabulary.
Time for Paper II = 1 hour.
Other components
There are additional marks for experience/viva/interview components (the announcement describes 15 marks for experience and 15 marks for interview). Check the final notification for the exact breakup and total marks used for selection.
Note: Attend the December 14 College TRB state-level model test — it will closely mirror the real exam setup and remove confusion about question level and timing. The model test will be taken from home but follows the actual exam pattern so you should prepare as if you are appearing at the exam centre.

Many candidates who are similar on subject knowledge stand out through descriptive writing — structure and presentation can give you a real edge.
Structure to follow (simple, repeatable):
- Introduction — define the issue and state your stance (2–3 lines).
- Body — 2–3 paragraphs
- Paragraph 1: explain the causes/background.
- Paragraph 2: discuss effects/implications (link to subject where possible).
- Paragraph 3: solutions/recommendations and practical steps.
- Conclusion — concise summary + forward-looking sentence.
Small headings and logical flow help the examiner skim and give better coherence marks. Avoid jumping between ideas.
