The College TRB Examination, scheduled for 27 December, is entering its final and most critical phase. As part of our Victory Countdown Series, Professor Academy conducted a full-length College TRB Model Test to help aspirants experience the real exam environment and assess their readiness under actual exam conditions.
The response was overwhelming, with more than 2000 aspirants participating across various subjects. This initiative was designed not merely to test knowledge, but to identify execution gaps, exam temperament issues, and strategy-related mistakes—areas that often decide final ranks.
Why Professor Academy Released the Rank List
After releasing the Top 3 State Rank Holders, we received multiple requests from aspirants asking for the complete rank list to better understand comparative performance and benchmark preparation levels.
Based on this feedback, Professor Academy released a subject-wise rank list, highlighting only the top-performing candidates in each subject.
Our Reasoning:
- The objective was learning, not comparison
- To help aspirants understand what top performers did differently
- To encourage aspirants to refine preparation strategies, not lose confidence
Depending on the subject, we released:
- Top 10 ranks
- Top 20 ranks
- Top 25 ranks
The rank list is available subject-wise via a downloadable Word document shared in the official link.
Key Observations from the Model Test
Following the test, our academic team conducted detailed discussions with aspirants—including high scorers, average performers, and candidates who underperformed despite preparation. From these conversations, we identified repeating patterns of mistakes that aspirants must address immediately.
Tamil Eligibility: The Most Overlooked Elimination Factor
One of the most alarming findings was related to Tamil Eligibility.
- 40+ candidates failed Tamil Eligibility in the model test
- Many of them scored 105–110 marks in the subject paper
- Due to Tamil Eligibility scores of 18–19, their papers would be invalidated
- Such candidates will not be considered for merit ranking
Important Clarification:
Tamil Eligibility is not advanced Tamil. It tests:
- Basic reading and comprehension
- Writing ability
- School-level Tamil concepts
Ignoring Tamil Eligibility is a high-risk mistake. No matter how strong your subject preparation is, failing Tamil Eligibility will nullify your attempt.
Understanding the Role of Previous Year Questions (PYQs)
Since College TRB is being conducted for the first time, aspirants must clearly understand how to use PYQs effectively.
There are no direct previous-year College TRB questions. Relevant reference exams include:
- UGC NET
- CSIR NET
- SET (other states)
- Assistant Professor / Lecturer-level exams
Common Mistake:
Many aspirants expected direct repetition of NET questions, which led to confusion and poor performance.
Correct Approach:
- Use PYQs to understand concept depth and question framing
- Apply knowledge to newly framed questions
- Aspirants who completed NET-level preparation and attended model tests performed significantly better
PYQs are a conceptual guide, not a question bank.
CBT to OMR Transition: A Hidden Challenge
Most aspirants are habituated to Computer-Based Tests (CBT) such as NET and SET. College TRB, however, follows an OMR-based format, which requires a different execution mindset.
Common OMR Errors Observed:
- Marking answers impulsively
- Changing answers after shading (not permitted)
- Placing dots while thinking
- Incorrect question-number alignment
- Half-shaded circles
- Expecting correction options (eraser/whitener are not allowed)
In OMR exams, even a small dot is treated as a final answer.
Time Management: Avoiding the CBT Trap
Instead of slow writing, many aspirants made the opposite mistake—writing too fast, treating the exam like a CBT test.
Recommended Strategy: Two-Pass Method
- First Pass: Attempt only questions you are 100% confident about
- Second Pass: Revisit skipped questions and answer carefully
- Optional Third Pass: If time permits, review doubtful questions
UGC NET Exam Structure:
- Tamil Eligibility: 30 questions
- Subject Paper: 100 questions
- Total: 130 questions in 3 hours
Never shade answers unless you are completely certain.
Costly Numbering Errors: A Silent Rank Killer
In one case, a candidate skipped a question but continued shading answers from the wrong number, resulting in nearly 30 incorrect answers, despite knowing the concepts well.
Always ensure:
- Question number matches OMR number
- Sequential marking
- Frequent number checks before shading
Why Full-Length Model Tests Are Non-Negotiable
These mistakes occurred in a model test, not the actual exam—and that is exactly why model tests are invaluable.
Full-length tests help aspirants:
- Build OMR discipline
- Finalize time management strategy
- Improve accuracy under pressure
- Develop exam-day confidence
Professor Academy has provided multiple full-length mock tests to help aspirants master these skills.
Final Words from Professor Academy
College TRB is not just a test of knowledge—it is a test of strategy, execution, and mental discipline.
Every aspirant’s approach may differ, but success depends on:
- Consistent practice
- Honest test analysis
- Smart revision
- Calm execution
Use the remaining days wisely. Learn from mistakes now, not in the exam hall.
Prepare smart. Stay confident.
Professor Academy wishes you all the very best for the College TRB Examination 2025.
