How I Cleared the UGC NET Exam in My First Attempt? – M. Surender JRF Achiever Success Talk

UGC NET JRF Success Story

Hello, my name is M. Surender from Madhavaram, and I am proud to share that I cleared the UGC NET JRF in my very first attempt.

This journey was not just about passing an exam—it was about making a strong decision, staying committed to it, and trusting the process even when everything around me pushed me in the opposite direction.

My preparation journey

I began UGC NET Preparation during my M.Com degree itself

While many of my peers were focusing only on academics, I had already made a clear decision about my future.

By the end of my course, I knew that my career would be in teaching. That clarity helped me take an early step—I started preparing for UGC NET even before completing my degree.

In the beginning, like most aspirants, I was surrounded by fear.

I kept hearing from different people that UGC NET is one of the toughest exams, that it is not easy to crack, and even experienced candidates struggle to clear it.

At the same time, there were also people who said that with the right strategy and consistent preparation, clearing NET is absolutely possible. I chose to believe the second group.

I asked myself a simple question—we have already cleared our 10th, 12th, UG, and PG exams with effort and dedication, so why not put the same effort into UGC NET?

That thought gave me confidence and became the foundation of my preparation.

Initially, I had no idea how to prepare. I didn’t know which books to follow, how to make notes, or how to structure my study plan.

I started researching and looking for the right academy that could guide me properly. That is when I found Professor Academy, known for its structured UGC NET coaching.

Interestingly, my sister was also preparing for UGC NET, so both of us decided to visit the academy directly.

We went to the main office, enquired about the courses, and on the same day, we joined.

That decision turned out to be one of the most important steps in my journey.

The classes were conducted daily from 5 AM to 7 AM. Initially, it was difficult to attend live sessions regularly because I had to balance my college academics as well.

However, I managed as much as I could, and for the classes I missed, I relied on recorded videos. Those recorded sessions became a major support system for me.

During my preparation, I maintained a strong study routine.

On most days, I studied for 8 to 12 hours, especially during my final year. However, there were phases where things didn’t go as planned.

During my project phase and exams, I faced a preparation gap. After completing my degree, I decided to fully focus on UGC NET.

That was also the time when I faced external pressure.

Relatives and neighbors often questioned my decision and insisted that I should go for a job instead of staying at home and preparing.

But I stayed firm in my decision. I chose to ignore the noise and focus on my goal.

My preparation strategy was simple but consistent.

I relied heavily on handwritten notes, especially from the recorded classes.

Around 80% of my notes came from these sessions, and the rest I built using previous year question papers.

I followed a method where I completed one unit at a time, revised it thoroughly, and then practiced questions from previous papers.

This helped me understand where I was strong and where I needed improvement.

Revision played a crucial role in my success. Instead of rushing to complete new topics, I focused on revising what I had already studied multiple times.

This helped me build strong recall ability, which is very important for UGC NET.

During my journey, I also faced health challenges. I used to fall sick frequently, almost once a month.

Initially, I ignored it, but later I realized that health is equally important.

I started maintaining a proper routine—eating well, taking short walks, getting enough sleep, and ensuring a calm study environment.

Whenever I felt mentally low, I took a break, relaxed, and came back stronger.

There were also moments when my friends advised me to take up a job and prepare alongside. But I knew that I needed full focus, at least for a certain period.

I dedicated myself completely for three months of distraction-free preparation, and that made a significant difference.

Another important factor was consistency. My faculty always emphasized that consistency and revision are more powerful than anything else.

I followed that strictly. I avoided procrastination and made sure I stayed on track with my study plan.

Test series also played an important role in my preparation. They helped me understand the exam pattern, improve my speed, and identify weak areas.

I strongly believe that regular testing is essential for success in competitive exams.

At one point, I was even given a chairman position in my college department, which was a proud moment.

But despite my responsibilities, I never stopped my preparation. Thanks to recorded classes, I could revisit lessons anytime and continue learning without interruption.

To manage distractions, I reduced my social media usage significantly. I even set a timer on Instagram for just 30 minutes a day.

This small step helped me save a lot of time and stay focused.

My family’s financial condition was also a challenge. My father clearly said that he could not afford the academy fees, but he supported my decision emotionally.

So, I took up a part-time job and used my own earnings to join the academy. That decision made me even more responsible and determined.

Once I fully committed to preparation, my family gave me complete support.

They ensured that I had a peaceful environment to study and never disturbed me. My friends also stood by me and celebrated my success as their own.

Professor Academy played a major role in my journey, especially in Paper I preparation, which helped me score better.

The teaching methods of the faculty made even difficult topics feel simple and understandable.

Their guidance on time management, revision, and exam strategy was extremely valuable.

Since the syllabus is vast, I made a smart decision—I focused on topics that I could understand well and strengthened them deeply.

I avoided picking up completely new or difficult topics at the last moment. Instead, I focused on revising what I already knew and making it strong.

Looking back today, I feel proud of every decision I made—starting early, staying consistent, ignoring negativity, and trusting the process.

Clearing UGC NET JRF in my first attempt was not luck; it was the result of disciplined effort, strong belief, and continuous learning.
