Indian Railways Tests Asia’s Longest Freight Train ‘Rudrastra’
Indian Railways has successfully run a trial of Rudrastra, the continent’s longest freight train, stretching 4.5 km. The trial covered a distance of 209 km between Ganjkhwaja (Uttar Pradesh) and Garhwa (Jharkhand) in 5 hours 10 minutes at an average speed of 40.5 km/h. The 345-wagon, 7-engine formation was created by linking three long-haul rakes, equivalent to five standard goods trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the initiative would enhance freight efficiency and speed up cargo movement on the DDU–Dhanbad route.
Aadhaar Face Authentication Sets New Record – 19.36 Crore Transactions in July 2025
In July 2025, Aadhaar face authentication transactions hit an all-time high of 19.36 crore, compared to 5.77 crore in July 2024 — a 22% rise over June’s numbers. A single-day record of 1.22 crore was set on 1 July. Over 150 institutions, spanning banking, telecom, oil, and government services, now use this AI-powered, contactless verification method. The technology is integrated with schemes like NSAP and recruitment boards such as SSC and RRB. Overall Aadhaar authentications stood at 221 crore, with e-KYC transactions reaching 39.56 crore.
GeM Celebrates 9 Years, Records ₹5.4 Lakh Crore GMV in FY 2024–25
The Government e Marketplace (GeM) marked its ninth anniversary with a GMV of ₹5.4 trillion for FY 2024–25. Since 2016, the platform has onboarded 1.5 lakh women-led businesses, startups, SHGs, artisans, and MSMEs, promoting transparent and inclusive public procurement. Recent reforms include removing caution money, reducing transaction charges, and adjusting vendor fees — benefitting 97% of orders.
‘Mann Ki Baat’ Generates ₹34 Crore Revenue Since 2014
Union Minister L Murugan revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio programme Mann Ki Baat has earned ₹34.13 crore since its first broadcast on 3 October 2014. Produced in-house by Akashvani without additional expenditure, the show is aired on radio, Doordarshan, digital platforms, and social media in multiple languages, reaching audiences across India and abroad.
29,000+ Fatalities on National Highways in First Half of 2025
Government data shows over 29,000 deaths occurred on national highways in the first six months of 2025 — more than half of last year’s total. While highways make up only 2% of India’s road network, they account for 30% of road accident deaths. Measures like improved road design, ATMS deployment, and stricter consultant selection are underway to meet the 2030 target of halving road fatalities.
Indian Railways Introduces 20% Fare Discount on Festival Round Trip Package
To manage festival travel demand, Indian Railways has launched a round-trip package offering a 20% discount on the return leg of confirmed bookings. Valid for travel between 13–26 October (onward) and 17 November–1 December 2025 (return), the offer applies to all classes and trains except Flexi fare services. Tickets must be for the same passengers, class, and route; no modifications or refunds will be allowed.

Mission Poshan 2.0 Registers Over 72 Lakh Pregnant Women
By July 2025, more than 72.22 lakh pregnant women were enrolled under Mission Poshan 2.0, while over 4.05 crore beneficiaries have availed maternity benefits through PMMVY since 2017. Under the scheme, Take-Home Ration is provided for 300 days to pregnant women and adolescent girls.
