Academic Gap And Studying Tamil Medium Is Not AT All A Barrier To Clear The PG Assistant English Exam

Devika TRB English Success Story

My name is Devika M, and I am currently working as a PG Assistant in English at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Alangudi. My journey to this position was not straightforward. With an 8-year gap in my studies and a Tamil-medium educational background, I faced multiple challenges.

However, with determination, consistent effort, and the right guidance, I was able to achieve success in the Tamil Nadu PG TRB Exam. Today, I want to share my journey to inspire aspirants who may feel held back by similar circumstances.

Starting Again After an 8-Year Gap

After completing my studies, I had an 8-year break, which made it extremely difficult to restart my academic journey. By the time I began preparing again, I had forgotten many core concepts in English. I entered my preparation with what felt like a completely blank mind. I constantly questioned myself:

  • “Can I really do this?”
  • “Is it too late to start again?”

These doubts made the beginning of my preparation very challenging.

Overcoming Fear Through the Right Guidance

Everything changed when I joined Professor Academy. The way the faculty taught was completely different. Instead of surface-level teaching, they explained every concept deeply and clearly, which helped me rebuild my foundation from scratch. Slowly, my fear started to fade, and confidence began to grow.

My Preparation Strategy That Made the Difference

To overcome my challenges, I followed a structured and disciplined preparation approach.

Attending Live and Recorded Classes

I attended live classes regularly. On days when I couldn’t attend due to household responsibilities, I made sure to watch the recorded sessions on the same day.

Handwritten Notes

During classes, I prepared my own handwritten notes, which became my most valuable resource during revision.

Continuous Recall Practice

Whenever I found time, I revisited my notes and practiced recalling concepts repeatedly, which improved my retention significantly.

Focused Study Hours

During the exam period, I dedicated 7 to 8 hours daily for focused study. This consistent effort helped me strengthen my subject knowledge step by step.

Tamil Medium Is Not a Limitation

One of my biggest insecurities was my Tamil-medium background. I used to feel that it might affect my ability to succeed in an English subject examination. However, with the guidance and structured syllabus coverage provided by the academy, I realized that language background is not a barrier when you have the right support and dedication. The encouragement and continuous motivation from the faculty and coordinators gave me the confidence to move forward without hesitation.

The Power of Belief from Mentors

Today, when I reflect on my journey, I realize one important truth: It was not just my belief in myself that brought me here—it was also the belief my mentors had in me. Their encouragement, guidance, and trust helped me push beyond my limits and achieve my goal.

A Message to Aspirants

If you are someone who has:

  • A gap in your studies
  • A Tamil-medium background
  • Doubts about your capabilities

Remember this:

Your past does not define your future. With consistent preparation, the right mentorship, and a strong mindset, you can achieve success in competitive exams like PG TRB.

Final Thoughts

From an 8-year academic gap and self-doubt to becoming a government school teacher, my journey has been a transformation of persistence and belief.
