A. Graduate Teachers Educational Qualification 

 

To be considered for the post of Graduate Teacher / BRTE, an applicant must possess the minimum educational criteria listed below. 

 

No individual will be considered eligible unless they hold one of the following qualifications:

 

 

BRTE – Accepted Educational Qualification Combinations

 

A candidate should have:

 

1. A Bachelor’s Degree along with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (irrespective of the name used for the diploma) OR
2. A Graduation with 50% minimum marks and a B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education);
   OR
3. A Graduation with at least 45% marks plus a B.Ed in Education  as permitted under the relevant NCTE Recognition Norms and Procedures issued periodically;
   OR
4. Higher Secondary (or equivalent) with 50% marks and a 4-year B.El.Ed. (Bachelor in Elementary Education);
   OR
5. Higher Secondary with minimum 50% marks and a 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed. program;
   OR
6. A Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed. in Special Education.

 

Additional Mandatory Requirements

 

• The candidate must hold a degree (or its equivalent qualification) in the subject/language for which the recruitment is announced.
• The candidate must have passed TNTET Paper-II with the relevant optional subject for direct recruitment.

 

 

Special Provisions

 

• Candidates with qualifications listed under points (i), (iv), and (vi) are eligible to be appointed as Graduate Teachers for Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, and Geography for Classes VI to VIII.
• Individuals with B.Ed. (Special Education) must complete a 6-month NCTE-recognized Special Programme in Elementary Education after appointment.
• Applicants with B.A./B.Sc./B.Litt. and B.Ed. (Special Education) or Senior Diploma in Teaching for Visually/Hearing Impaired qualify only for posts under the Directorate for Welfare of the Differently Abled.
• Possessing qualifications approved by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) is mandatory.

Candidates must hold a Graduate Degree (B.A./B.Sc.) with any of the following majors:

 

Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, History, or Geography from a recognized university.

 

 

Important Eligibility Conditions

 

1. Candidates who do not possess the required qualifications on the Notification date cannot apply.
2. Applicants must self-check their eligibility before submitting their application.
3. Permission to write the exam does not confirm eligibility.
4. Eligibility will be verified by TRB only during Certificate Verification, if called.

 

 

B. Equivalence of Qualification

 

Those claiming equivalence must:

 

• Upload valid Equivalence Government Orders (G.O.) at the time of online application.
• If a candidate has applied for equivalence but has not yet received the G.O., they must submit it during Certificate Verification.
• Failure to provide proper equivalence documents will result in rejection of candidature.

 

 

C. Qualification Criteria (Detailed Rules)

 

1. Degrees obtained through one-year programs (double degrees, dual degrees, additional degrees) are not acceptable.
2. Candidates who completed two or three required qualifications simultaneously (SSLC, HSC, UG, B.Ed.) are not eligible.
3. The qualification must follow acceptable patterns such as:
   
   • 10+3 (Diploma)
   • 10+2+3 (Degree)
   • 10+2+4 / 10+3+4
     as defined in the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act, 2016.
4. Candidates must have completed all qualifications according to acceptable patterns like:
   
   • Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed.
   • Graduation + B.Ed.
   • Higher Secondary + B.El.Ed.
   • Higher Secondary + B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
   • Graduation + B.Ed. (Special Education)
5. Candidates must have obtained all certificates, including PSTM, on or before the last date of online application submission.

 

 

D. Knowledge of Tamil – Mandatory

 

1. Every applicant must have adequate knowledge of Tamil, the official language of Tamil Nadu.
   
   • A candidate without Tamil knowledge may apply, but after appointment must pass the Second-Class Tamil Language Test by TNPSC within two years, failing which they will be removed from service.

From 1 December 2021, anyone applying for direct recruitment must score at least 40% in the Tamil Language Paper in the selection exam.
